Railtex 2011 - Demco on Stand D30

news

Demco’s hugely successful TerraRange drainage systems take centre stage at this year's Railtex (Earls Court, June 14-16) as the company celebrates receiving full Network Rail Certificate of Acceptance for its modular design catchpit.

Terrapit was one of the first light-weight modular design catchpits on the market, designed to speed up installation. After extensive tests at Birmingham University, National Rail acceptance was granted earlier this year, meaning it can now be ordered direct without the need for site approval.

It is proving increasingly popular as it is easily installed in lightweight sections by just two people, significantly reducing closure time compared with traditional concrete catchpits.

Recently, Terrapit has been installed in major track drainage projects, including Botley Station in Hampshire and Scarborough Station. The acceptance also covers LUL projects and Terrapits have been installed along the Preston Road to Northwick Park section of the Metropolitan Line. The certificate applies to both the standard width (960mm) and also the narrow (630mm wide) version, designed for use when space is limited.

Demco sales engineer Mark Lackner explained: “It is becoming increasingly popular as the benefits are clear. At Botley Station, it was possible to carry out 400m of track drainage work in eight hours. Without the Terrapit method, we would be talking about 16 hours.

“Engineers see the benefits for themselves and use it in subsequent jobs. Word is spreading – the feedback is it is a good product and they are pleased with its performance.”

Demco is proud of its long association with Network Rail and London Underground. Last year Terradrain was successfully installed in one of the most problematic areas of the North London Railway Infrasturcture Project, The Canyon. Terradrain also has Network Rail certification and is designed specifically for very shallow high-load applications providing solutions to areas with challenging constraints.

Demco also supplied special bespoke PE fabrications for use as backdrop sewer outlets in chambers through this area. Each one has been individually designed to suit each sewer outlet chamber’s pacific requirements.
