Ipswich Station

4 July 2019

Following the building of a new viaduct at Ipswich, new routes under the railway had to be found for Telecom’s & East Anglia Water mains. It was decided to use non-dig technology to drill and sleeve through the embankment 12m apart to enable both companies to get their supplies through.

A launch pit and reception pit had to be made ready, then Molegrove drilled through the embankment supporting each metre with a 560mm OD steel casing ensuring the track was supported at all times. The railway line remained open for traffic throughout the installation.
