Specialist supplier of geotechnical solutions, MGS, has enhanced its range of ground water level monitoring products with the recent addition of the Aquatel Telemetry Modem, developed by Aquaread.
To help simplify data management in hydrogeological and geotechnical monitoring applications, MGS is now distributing the Aquaread Smart Telemetry Modem to its customer-base in the UK and Europe.
The Aquatel device provides a combined data-logging and telemetry system to monitor water level and water quality at pre-determined intervals, while recording and periodically uploading data to a web-based platform.
Configuration and control of the Aquatel can be performed by both SMS or email, allowing users can gather data even without a stable internet connection or mobile phone signal.
“With its innovative communication features, the Aquatel Telemetry modem is ideal for use in demanding applications at any location in the world. Given its benefits, we are confident that our customers will gain even more reliable data when using the device for their groundwater projects” states Richard Houghton, Technical Sales Engineer responsible for water monitoring products at MGS.
Constructed using carbon fibre and aluminium, the Aquatel features 4G modem communications, a built-in GPS receiver, and a barometric pressure sensor for location and parameter compensation.
The Aquatel also integrates with the web-based data visualisation portal, Inoview, enabling users to gather, transmit and analyse real-time data on a secure and user-friendly platform.
“Recording, viewing and manipulating groundwater data has never been easier. Directly from a mobile phone, the Aquatel can execute SMS commands and provide instant readings. In addition, programmable alerts can be set to automatically send messages, ensuring users are immediately informed of any specific conditions” adds Richard.
Aquaread are a UK-based manufacturer of water testing instrumentation, used across various applications such as flood monitoring, aquaculture, mining, marine, construction and more.
Established in 1988, MGS are a leading manufacturer and supplier of specialist quality products for use in ground investigation, water well and geothermal drilling applications, railway drainage, landfill gas extraction and more.
Alongside its range of Aquaread products, MGS delivers high-precision groundwater level monitoring solutions, such as smart automatic level data loggers and Piezometers.
“Given our prominent position in the geotechnical industry, we’re always looking for ways to enhance our service and provide even greater technology to support our customers. We are proud to be distributing Aquaread’s instrumentation and we look forward to assisting more groundwater level monitoring projects with Aquaread products in the years to come” concludes Richard.

Bury St Edmunds, UK – MGS, a leading provider of specialist solutions for drilling, drainage, and renewable energy systems, has officially begun manufacturing high-performance pipes for ground source heat recovery at its Bury St Edmunds facility. This move marks a major step forward in the company’s mission to support the UK’s transition to net zero through homegrown innovation and sustainable infrastructure.
With the installation of a state-of-the-art pipe extrusion machine, MGS is now producing pipework specifically engineered for ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems— a key technology in the decarbonisation of heating and cooling. These pipes are designed for exceptional durability, pressure resistance, and thermal conductivity, making them ideal for long-term subsurface use in residential and commercial renewable heating projects.
The new pipe extrusion line was made possible with support from the Business Transition to Net Zero (BNTZ) grant and Suffolk County Council. It allows MGS to bring production of one of its core product lines in-house, significantly strengthening its control over quality, lead times, and supply chain resilience.
“Ground source heat pumps are a cornerstone of low-carbon heating in the UK, and the performance of these systems depends heavily on the quality of the pipework installed,” said Anthony Stupak, Managing Director of MGS. “By manufacturing these geothermal pipes ourselves, we’re not only ensuring the highest standards of reliability and efficiency—we’re reinforcing our commitment to sustainable British manufacturing.”
The move away from importing this type of pipe is part of MGS’s broader strategy to localise its supply chain and support the UK’s clean energy goals. With increasing demand for renewable heating solutions, in-house production allows MGS to respond more quickly to market needs, maintain consistent product availability, and offer enhanced service to installers and project developers.
“Producing our geothermal pipe systems on-site gives us the agility to innovate, scale production, and align directly with the growing momentum in the ground source sector,” added Anthony. “It’s a win for our customers, for our business, and for the UK’s net zero ambitions.”
Established in 1988, MGS has been a trusted supplier of specialist products used in ground investigation, geothermal and water well drilling, railway drainage, and landfill gas extraction. With over three decades of experience supporting large-scale infrastructure and renewable energy projects across the UK, MGS is known for delivering quality, expertise, and engineering excellence.
“With our expanded manufacturing capabilities, recent product launches, and strategic partnerships, MGS is well-positioned to lead in 2025 and beyond,” concluded Anthony. “We’re proud to produce reliable, UK-made solutions that help our customers build a more sustainable future.”
