MGS’ Alan Havelock wins Employee of the Year at Bury Business Awards

20 October 2025

Alan Havelock, Production Team Leader at MGS, has won the prestigious Employee of Year Award at the Bury Business Awards.

Hosted by the Bury Free Press, the Bury Business Awards brings together business leaders and innovators from across West Suffolk to celebrate the achievements of local businesses and the people who drive their success.

As a finalist, members of the MGS team were proud to attend the event and see their own Alan Havelock honoured for his exceptional leadership, dedication and contribution to the company’s growth.

“Alan is an invaluable part of the MGS team, and we couldn’t be prouder of his achievement. This year, Alan has played a key role in implementing our recent manufacturing investments and his support has been nothing short of fantastic. Congratulations and thank you for all your dedication and hard work!” states Anthony Stupak, Managing Director at MGS.

Joining the company in 2010, Alan is now the Production Team Leader at MGS’s site in Bury St Edmunds, overseeing the production in our plastic fabrication and pipe extrusion departments. Earlier this year, MGS invested in its own plastic pipe extrusion machinery to support their net zero goals. Since then, Alan has successfully led the implementation of the new manufacturing operations, ensuring that every pipe is produced to MGS’s high standards of quality whilst driving progress toward the company’s sustainability objectives.  Alan worked tirelessly on this huge project for MGS whilst also finding time to study towards his CMI Diploma in Management.

“It was a proud moment taking home the award for Employee of the Year and I’d like to thank my colleagues and all the team at MGS for not only nominating me for this award, but also for their support and encouragement,” says Alan.

In addition to the Employee of the Year Award, MGS were also shortlisted for the West Suffolk Award for Innovation, which recognised businesses who were investing in and delivering innovative products in their sector.

Established in 1988 in Bury St Edmunds, MGS are a leading manufacturer and supplier of specialist quality products for use in ground investigation, water well and geothermal drilling applications, railway drainage, landfill gas extraction and more.

With strong roots in Bury St Edmunds, MGS is a community-focused business, engaging in local events, developing local talent through apprenticeships and supporting sustainable initiatives.
